Skadden lifts a DLA Piper mass torts team

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates brought in a five-lawyer DLA Piper mass torts and product liability team in Chicago, with four joining as partners. It follows another Chicago mass torts partner hire in July. Milbank LLP added a White & Case LLP project finance lawyer in Chicago, who joins as a partner in Milbank’s global project, energy and infrastructure finance group. Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP hired a JPMorganChase assistant general counsel in Chicago, who joins as a partner. Sidley Austin LLP poached a Kirkland & Ellis investment funds partner in Los Angeles, who joins as co-lead of Sidley’s private equity funds group. Haynes and Boone, LLP brought in a Loeb & Loeb LLP real estate lawyer in New York, who joins as a partner. Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough added an international tax, estate planning and private wealth partner in Miami. Debevoise & Plimpton added the acting director of litigation at the DOJ Antitrust Division, who joins as an antitrust partner in DC.

On the business side, Law.com reports more than 680 residents near the 2023 East Palestine derailment have filed malpractice suits against the plaintiffs’ firms behind the $600 million Norfolk Southern settlement, including Grant & Eisenhofer P.A., Morgan & Morgan and Motley Rice.
