Sullivan & Cromwell restocks its appellate bench from two rivals

Sullivan & Cromwell LLP poached a McGuireWoods LLP appellate partner and an Ashurst Perkins Coie appellate partner in DC, who join as co-heads of the firm's Supreme Court and appellate practice. Sullivan & Cromwell also added a third appellate partner in DC. All three are former assistants to the US Solicitor General. Debevoise & Plimpton poached Freshfields' two private capital leaders in New York, who join Debevoise's M&A group as partners. Dechert LLP added a former CFTC official as a commodities and derivatives partner in New York. Sidley Austin LLP poached a Kirkland & Ellis investment funds partner in Chicago. Bloomberg Law reports a Kirkland & Ellis partner is joining Baker McKenzie to co-head the congressional investigations practice. In DC, O'Melveny & Myers added a white collar defense and corporate investigations partner. WilmerHale added a securities litigation and enforcement partner, and Squire Patton Boggs added a corporate partner.

On the business side, Bloomberg Law reports LIV Golf paid Gibson Dunn more than $7.1 million in discounted legal fees, according to bankruptcy court records.
