Five Partner Moves and a Data Breach Suit
Weil, Gotshal & Manges says Cravath, Swaine & Moore's private equity head will return to them as a partner and U.S. co-head of private equity in New York. Weil also says he is the eighth former Weil partner to come back this year. Gibson Dunn poached a Clifford Chance partner in New York, who joins as co-chair of the structured finance practice. Holland & Knight poached a McDermott Will & Schulte M&A partner in Atlanta. Vinson & Elkins added a capital markets partner in New York, hired out of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. Lowenstein Sandler poached a Morrison Foerster private funds partner, also in New York. Milbank hired a corporate finance lawyer out of Davis Polk & Wardwell who joins as a partner in New York. Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr poached a Husch Blackwell bankruptcy partner in Austin. Jenner & Block hired New Jersey's first solicitor general as a partner in New York, after six years in that post.
On the business side, Seyfarth Shaw was hit with a proposed class action in Chicago federal court over an August data breach. Seyfarth says someone impersonating their IT help desk deceived an employee into emailing client documents to an unauthorized outside account. The National Law Journal reports Firm Prospects counted nearly a quarter of AmLaw 200 lateral hires in the first half of this year as part of group moves of three or more attorneys, and that lateral hiring slowed in the second quarter compared with the first.
