Latham loses two, Latham gains one: today's lateral run

Vinson & Elkins took two structured finance lawyers out of Latham & Watkins in New York. Both join as partners, and one takes over as head of the practice. Sidley Austin LLP added two FDA and life sciences partners from King & Spalding, one in San Francisco and one in DC. Latham & Watkins poached an insurance recovery partner in DC out of Haynes and Boone, LLP. Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP poached a partner in Chicago out of Winston Taylor. Boies Schiller Flexner LLP poached an intellectual property partner in San Francisco out of Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP. Greenberg Traurig LLP hired a Kirkland & Ellis finance partner in Dallas as a shareholder. Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison added an executive compensation partner in New York. Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP brought in a labor and employment partner in Chicago out of Amazon. Mayer Brown added a public policy and regulatory partner in DC out of the Federal Reserve's legal division.

On the business side, Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP opened their first Florida office in Jacksonville with a three lawyer finance, bankruptcy and restructuring team. Womble says that is their thirty fourth US office. Bloomberg Law reports Goodwin named a new co-chair of their Supreme Court and appellate practice after the group's previous leaders left. Reuters reports California's governor signed a bill barring outside investors from steering law firms' litigation and settlement decisions, putting the state alongside Colorado and Illinois. The American Lawyer reports Big Law lateral moves have hit a new peak, with one recruiter telling them momentum builds on itself.
