On the business side, Bloomberg Law reports the top 50 firms hired 1,086 lateral partners through August, up from 901 a year earlier, citing SurePoint Legal Insights. Payouts from L.A. County's $4 billion sex abuse settlement have been delayed while two plaintiffs' firms face probes, the Los Angeles Times reports.
