Weil loses its private equity co-head to Paul Weiss

Weil, Gotshal & Manges is losing the co-head of its private equity group to Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. He sits on Weil's management committee and has been at the firm since 2005. The American Lawyer reports a second private equity partner at Weil is in discussions to move to Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, though that one is described as less certain, and the Wall Street Journal reports the firm is facing a wave of partner defections, including a group headed to Paul Weiss. That was the whole US move wire. Bloomberg Law's law firm section carried only Thursday's hires, and Law.com's hiring page turned up no other US lateral.

On the business side, The American Lawyer looked at how firms that don't match the top of the associate pay scale are competing for talent, with a smoother path to partnership and less onerous hours. The Education Department is also moving to revoke the American Bar Association's power to accredit law schools, with a department spokesperson saying staff found the accreditor out of compliance with its accreditation regulations and recognition standards.
