DLA Piper takes a Freshfields investigations partner, and Quinn Emanuel clears $3B

DLA Piper poached a Freshfields investigations partner in Washington, DC, a former federal prosecutor and counselor to the US attorney general. The National Law Journal counts him as the fourth partner to join DLA Piper's DC investigations team in the past 18 months. DLA Piper also brought in a co-lead of its New York private equity practice. Squire Patton Boggs poached a Morrison & Foerster restructuring partner in New York, who becomes national co-chair of the firm's creditors' committee practice. K&L Gates added an asset management and investment funds partner in Washington, DC, hired from Linklaters, focused on broker-dealer regulation and SEC and FINRA enforcement.

On the business side, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan's co-managing partners say the firm will pass $3 billion in revenue and $10 million in profits per equity partner this year, and that it has no need for outside capital. Morgan & Morgan sued The Florida Bar in federal court over the rule barring law firms from using a celebrity's voice or image in advertising, which the complaint calls the most restrictive in the nation. Willkie Farr & Gallagher is touting a Texas revival after its lawyers advised on three energy deals announced in an eight-day span, including EnCap Flatrock Midstream's $5.5 billion sale of Momentum Midstream to The Williams Companies. A Troutman Pepper Locke associate is also suing the firm in New Jersey federal court, alleging he was punished for taking medical leave after a heart attack and accusing partners of fraudulent billing. The firm says it denies the allegations and will defend against the claims.
