Orrick lifts a six-lawyer fintech team out of Greenberg Traurig in Miami

Orrick pulled a six-lawyer fintech team from Greenberg Traurig in Miami, its first big hire since opening there last year. Latham & Watkins recruited Skadden's executive compensation co-head in New York, Debevoise & Plimpton brought in WilmerHale's trade secrets litigation co-lead in San Francisco, and Saul Ewing added a bankruptcy partner in New York and a government contracts partner in Washington, DC.

On the deal side, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and Sullivan & Cromwell topped Bloomberg Law's M&A league tables for the first half, with the two firms advising on roughly $500 billion of deals, powered by the AI dealmaking wave: the SpaceX and xAI combination and work tied to OpenAI and Anthropic. Kirkland & Ellis, Latham, and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz rounded out the top five.
